Rafael Márquez is training as a military doctor in a mountain regiment. He bears the disgrace of having a father who deserted the army, but manages to endure his career with dignity.

The arrival to the regiment of the legendary Colonel Santos, a friend of his father's, and the appearance of a mysterious backpack, fan Rafael's ghosts.

Santos confesses that his father never deserted but was killed by an old hermit who lives in the middle of the mountain range. The news will launch the young soldier on an intense search for his true story.
